Using Pattern
If you are sick of staring at white walls in your room, and feel that something more patterned would create a statement, then go for it! be bold, and choose designs and patterns that will really accentuate the space that you have. If the room is small try horizontal lines to create an illusion of more space. Limit them to the wall where the headboard is and it will create a fantastic focal point. Try a design with thick and thin stripes to add to the visual. A relective paper is a great way to make a room feel bigger, but only choose this if the wall underneath is smooth, otherwise it will highlight all the lumps and bumps.
If you are a bit nervous about such a permanent redesign, then go to town on bright and patterned bed linen. A duvet set can really change the whole feel of the room, and if you add throws and cushions you will add a lot of texture.
Big motifs are harder to use in a small space, so avoid them if you have limited space.
Don’t forget that pattern doesn’t have to be flowery and feminine, something with a little more graphic design will give the room a whole new feel. Match it with plain accessories that match. If you do have a small space then you don’t have to avoid pattern altogether, just opt for something that has a light background to really lift the light in the room.
